Why I write

In honor of the National Day of Writing :

I write to see in the dark,
To hear in the silence,
To feel the world in my heart.

pen & paper

Professionally, I write to serve others.

Why do you write?

I write because I'm grateful: grateful that I can; grateful for what I've read: grateful that I've been given some small talent that I can develop.
When I was younger I desperately needed to escape my violent, claustrophobic world - and I did it through books. WHEN I give one other person that gift, I feel redeemed.

You might enjoy the website of the National Association of Memoir Writers (NAMW): http://www.namw.org/. I attended their online conference on memoir writing last week: "Memoir, Memory and Truth." It was excellent -- more details about the conference and many other memoir writing tools are available at the NAMW website.
